Getting to Know You: Rose Winick

Since Rose is the founder of our organization, we are featuring her on this page for the whole month of July! We asked Rose to give us a little history of how she started Wives Behind The Badge and this is what she told us: "I started Wives Behind the Badge after a smaller group I joined shut down. A handful of girls (some of them still members/staff to this day) from the other group started a Yahoo group to keep the support going. After a while WBTB was born. After reading a post where a member was looking to find equipment for her husband we were called into action to find other ways to help our LE community. He was an officer in a small department and they did not supply officers with equipment. She was looking specifically for a ballistics vest. This prompted us to look into other ways of helping our LE community, which is why we became non-profit. "  We are so grateful for all the hard work Rose has put into making this organization what it is today! Thanks, Rose! Now, let's get to knew her a little bit more… Name – Rose Winick State – CA Family – My family consists of my husband and 2 boys. My 18 year old recently graduated high school and is taking some community college classes before entering into the Air Force. Our 14 year old, soon to be 15 in a couple weeks, will be a sophomore this year. He is currently spending his summer playing summer league basketball for his school team. Interests or hobbies – I love to do CrossFit! I've been doing it for 3 years now and find it to be a great stress reliever! Talents – I have no real talents, but I am the clumsiest person I know. I can trip over air – does that count? Occupation – I'm a Domestic Goddess with a housecleaner. My job is taking care of my family. When they say jump – I make sure there is nothing I can fall over – and ask how high! My dream vacation would be…. a cruise to Alaska! It's not fancy or exotic, but something I've always wanted to do. My super power is…. being a police wife. Something you can do better than your spouse/significant other …  Handstand push-ups!! He may be bigger and stronger than me, but he can't do a handstand push-up and I can! My greatest achievement has been …. raising two amazing teenage boys! There is nothing more that makes my heart swell with pride than when I'm told what great kids we have! They are respectful, courteous and caring kids. I'm very proud of the men they are becoming! Something that no one knows about me is … I have severe stage fright. I can't speak in front of people for any length of time without being on the verge of tears. It's terrible it's something that has hindered my ability to do my job sometimes. In school I would take a failing grade before I would speak in front of the class. It's really quite pathetic. LOL My favorite food is ….. Mexican. I could eat it every day. The 3 things I would want if I was stranded on a desert island are … my family, my Kindle and a wine cellar. My secret crush is … LL Cool J….*sigh*
